SCO Defined

First of all we are talking about a SCO in the context of the SCORM e-learning standard.

What SCO Stands For: Shareable Content Object

Simple Definition: A reusable learning object that the LMS launches and communicates with.

Practicle Understanding in relation to SCORM Package Properties

Most of you develop your SCORM content using one of the major authoring tools:

  • Articulate StoryLine
  • Articulate Studio
  • Adobe Captivate
  • Adobe Presenter
  • Camtasia
  • etc

These tools take care of all the requirements of SCORM and SCOs without you having to worry about it. One thing you do need to know is that your authored content will be contained in a Single SCO. So keep that in mind as you look at the SCORM Package Properties.

If you are a more advanced developer working with tools to package Multiple SCOs in a SCORM Package, then pay attention to the Multiple SCO features described throughout the SCORM Package Properties documentation.
